Fever Room is a journey in search of light……
Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy in collaboration with Kunstenfestivaldesarts presented “Fever Room “ , a film directed by Mr Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
The Brussels Royal Theatre in Belgium gave place to the reception and screening. I had the honour to be invited as a guest of Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH). The French Luxury Company sponsored the event as a great patron of arts.
As a part of the program devoted to Mr Apichatpong Weerasethakul the Director of the Film, The Festival was presenting the European premier of his first theatre production. In Fever Room, the director takes us back to the origins of Cinematographie and Theatrical imagination: the cave, an intoxicating space where reality and fiction encounter one another.
Mr Weerasethakul makes the dream three-dimensional, I would dare say even four-dimensional. He plays with hypnotic lightning and sound effects multiply screens and frames and projects filmic illusions onto a curtain of fog. He places the spectators in the center of the image and infects them with a feverish virus, until they lose their way. The universe is poised to collapse and we are stuck in a mesmerizing dream world on the brink of the subconscious.
Mr Apichatpong Weerasethakul received the Sharjah Biennal Prize at the 2013 Sharjah Biennal 11 in The United Arab Emirates.
Mr Apichatpong has also won a Palme d’Or prize at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival in 2010, making it the first Southeast Asian film (and the 7th from Asia) to win the most prestigious award in the film world.
Mr Weerasethakul was also awarded in 2008 bestowed upon him by the Minster of Culture of France, The Medal of Chevalier de L’ Ordre des Artes et des Lettres. (Knight of The Order of Arts and Literature).
In 2016, a retrospective of his films was presented at Tate Britain, United Kingdom.
He’s also a recipient of the Fukuoka Prize, Japan, 2013.
In late 2014, he received the Yanghyun Art Prize, one of the most prestigious prizes in Korea.
It was an Honour to be an invitee to this splendid event, truly a fascinating evening.
